Know the types of financial are available to you by completing an annual FASFA Application. Loans have to be repaid whereas grants and scholarships do not. Grants are usually awarded on the basis of need. Scholarships are usually awarded to students who demonstrate or show potential for distinction, either academically or in a specific skill, such as music and athletics.

  • Since the sources of federal funds are constantly changing, get the latest copy of the Students Guide: Federal Financial Aid programs by calling 1-800-4-FED-AID (433-3243).
  • Be aware that eligibility for various types of federal aid can change from year to year. Just because you didn’t qualify for a program last year doesn’t mean you won’t make it this year.
